The one who is in power can sets such authoritative & exploitative rules  for the sufferer which no one could ever imagine. Using another person’s vulnerability for one’s own benefit is terribly awful. Here's a incident from Kerala which proves so:-

In 19th century, where Kerala was officially the Kingdom of Travancore ,a tax was imposed based on purely- Caste. This tax was known as "Breast Tax" in which all the females of lower caste had to pay certain amount to the state for *covering their breasts*..This sounds soo disheartening but this is true.

Nangeli-She was a woman belonging from Ezhava caste (which was deemed to be lower ) from Cherthala. On one day she was forced to pay this tax by tax collectors. As a result, hopelessly she end up cutting her breast off because according to her it was the only solution for ending this problem. She died of excessive blood loss.her husband Chirukandan, took away his life by jumping into her funeral pyre, later he came to be known as the first male Sati. Her action left all the officials astonished. After this dreadful scenario ,this tax was abolished for Ezhava caste by the king of Travancore. Now what was Nangeli's fault?... Social discrimination causes a prejudice attitude among different people of society based on unjusticiable parameters which stops people from reaching their full potential and whose  consequences are so outrageous and grim which ensue incidents like these.

Contemporarily, the land where she lived came to be known as Mulachiparambu – the plot where the woman of breasts lived.

  1. Great job keep it up 👍 try to include the great reforms included in the Kerala Social life due to the struggles of Ezhava caste and most importantly Sri Narayana Guru the great reformer who stood in front to embolish the evils in society.
